About the Society

Rooted in Whiskey City

A private bourbon club founded in 2026 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

Our mission

Preserve, celebrate, and share

Our mission is to preserve and celebrate Lawrenceburg's whiskey heritage while bringing together responsible adult bourbon enthusiasts through education, tastings, distillery experiences, community events, and fellowship.

Whiskey City Bourbon Society, Inc. was incorporated as an Indiana nonprofit corporation in July 2026. We're a group of neighbors and friends who think the story of our hometown whiskey deserves to be told, tasted, and passed along.

What members enjoy

More than a tasting club

Education

Learn how mash bills, yeast, barrels and warehouses shape what's in the glass — and why Lawrenceburg whiskey tastes the way it does.

Tastings

Relaxed, guided tastings where everyone's palate counts, from first-timers to seasoned collectors.

Distillery experiences

Visits and conversations with the distillers, makers and historians keeping the craft alive in our region.

Community events

Showing up for Whiskey City happenings and supporting the town that gave us this heritage.

Heritage research

Helping uncover forgotten distilleries, collect oral histories, and preserve photos and records before they're lost.

Fellowship

Most of all, good people and good conversation. Friendships are the best thing we pour.

Why Lawrenceburg

Water, river, and rye

Water. The distilleries sit over the Great Miami Aquifer, whose limestone-filtered water stays around 56°F all year and is low in iron and sulfur — ideal for fermenting and cooling.

River. The Ohio carried Lawrenceburg barrels to the Mississippi and New Orleans, and later to markets back east.

Grain and rail. Surrounding farms supplied rye and corn, and after the Civil War the railroads brought grain in and shipped whiskey out.

By the late 1800s, Lawrenceburg and neighboring Greendale had become an industrial whiskey center to rival Louisville and Peoria, famous above all for its rye. After Repeal, Seagram and Schenley ran giant plants side by side here — and the former Seagram plant still makes whiskey today as MGP Distillery.
